A gathering of socialists had been held in the Austrian capital Vienna where anti-Islamic figures had delivered speeches and made remarks against the high-caliber religious authorities. Mr. Burgha’ei had been one of the participants of the summit and tensions were generated after his return.
The holy city of Qom tense following such gathering and the Shah regime forces opened fire against demonstrators and protesters. At this juncture of history Ayatollah Broujerdi, the most prominent Marja at the time asked Rouhoullah Khomeini, who was young at the time, to investigate the matter.
