Imam Khomeini once in a historic message on October 15, 1981 said as following:
Our Revolution depends upon spirituality and God and those who are in agreement with us are those who agree with the line of monotheism. We should not forget the spiritual side for which we made such a Revolution. We should not neglect that spiritual side, for in spite of all our incompetence in propaganda and publicity, still the people of the world understand our Revolution. And it is the line of spirituality which oppressors and power wielders are against.
Imam Khomeini used to say that a nation will come out victorious if it relies on spirituality.
According to Imam, liberty is not happiness and prosperity in and of itself. Independence is not happiness alone. Material gains alone will not create happiness for a nation. Happiness will consist of all of the above mentioned factors, if they are encompassed by spirituality.
Imam Khomeini’s stand is that politics can, and should, be ethical, for politics is nothing but implementation of ethics in a broader spectrum of the society as well as realization of religious ideals and goals.
In the opinion of the Imam Khomeini, the essence of power is an attribute of perfection and God also possesses this attribute in its absolute sense. Imam said in this regard as following:
“Power is a form of perfection in itself. God, the Sublime and Exalted, is powerful.”
As such, one should not shun power. Instead, he should understand it and benefit from it.

This is at a time though Iran is grappling with some economic and social problems inside and has many challenges ahead.
Iran's Revolution came about with upheaval in 1979. Going onto 40, the country witnessed demonstrations before its latest anniversary.
But the president quickly called for a year of unity, which is to be a springtime new year's resolution. We had three main slogans in the Islamic Revolution, namely Independence, Freedom and Islamic Republic.
By independence we meant getting rid of any kind of political dependence; be it colonial or exploitative which I can announce with full assurance that we have achieved it perfectly.
Freedom as the second slogan is yet to be fulfilled in some aspects. I believe that more serious measures need to be taken for the full realization of freedom to take place. Islamic Republic as the last slogan refers to the current system of the government which was established in 1979 and is getting stronger over time.
Almost 40 years have passed since the day the 2500-year empire in Iran was changed into an Islamic republic following the Islamic Revolution in 1979. 40 years have passed since then; Iran has become a powerful country in the region and political analysts believe that the secret behind the endurance of the Islamic Revolution evolution is the big support from people.
