According to Imam Khomeini, the month of Ramadan is the month of prophet hood and is blessed as the revelation has been revealed therein the Night of Qadr.
He also used to advise devotees to spiritually prepare themselves to observe the night of power Laylatul Qadr which has great virtues.
Imam Khomeini, who is considered as a great mystic, spiritual, philosopher, jurisprudent and intellectual of the Muslim world, used to attach a great significance to the holy month of Ramadan and canceled all extra activities to devote himself for divine and spiritual activities.
The spiritual leader of the contemporary Muslim world used to spend the hours of this month to worship and meditate and considered the prayer as a means of reaching to divine love.
His holiness Imam Khomeini purely would dedicate himself just to prayer and the recitation of the Holy Quran during the holy period.
The whole month of Ramadan for him was an appreciated opportunity to give prayer, recite the holy Quran and or the recommended rites particularly designed for the days and nights of this very blessed month of Ramadan.
The great Imam used to emphasize on self-purification, self-training, self-development, offering sacrifices and adopting other divine virtues during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The month of Ramadhan has been singled out for special worship and exclusive favours. It is a month unlike other months. One reason for this, as defined by the Qur'an, is because the Holy Qur'an was revealed in this month.
Imam Khomeini in this regard once said as following:
“With the coming of the holy month of Ramadan, the month of mercy, forgiveness and blessings, I beseech God, the Exalted, to make all the Muslims more aware of the duties and responsibilities that the Creator of the worlds has given them; the responsibility of preserving the divine laws and acting upon the Holy Qur'an which is the foundation of the revival of the honor and grandeur of Islam and the Muslims….”
