Imam Khomeini denounced Sabra and Shatila massacre

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic exposed crimes being committed by Zionist regime against Palestinians and people across the Mideast region.

Imam Khomeini through his messages and speeches frequently denounced the Sabra and Shatila massacre which was the killing of hundreds and perhaps thousands of civilians, mostly Palestinians and Lebanese Shia Muslims, by Lebanese militias under the eyes of their Israeli allies on September 16-18, 1982.

The brutal massacre undoubtedly constituted war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In 1982, Ariel Sharon, Israel’s minister for military affairs had overall responsibility for the Israeli forces, who controlled the area of the Sabra and Shatila camps.

Sharon, known as the butcher of Sabra and Shatila, clearly bore “personal responsibility” for the massacre.

Sharon had decided that Phalangist militias “should be sent” into the refugee camps despite the risk that they would kill civilians there.

Sharon died in 2014 without facing justice for his role in the slaughter.

Following Sharon’s death, Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch said that Sharon has gone to his grave without facing justice.

“It’s a shame that Sharon has gone to his grave without facing justice for his role in Sabra and Shatilla and other abuses.”

This comes as Lebanon has marked the 34th anniversary of the massacre of thousands of civilians by militias allied with Israel in the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila.

Large crowds of people took part in a march in the Lebanese capital Beirut, on Friday in remembrance of the victims of the tragedy.

Recalling the massacre, survivors still recounting the horror of the carnage.

The angry protesters held portraits showing images of their relatives, who were killed in the massacre.
