Qasemi said that the international community’s silence on Riyadh’s destruction of hospitals and schools is the reason behind Saudis' ceaseless atrocities in Yemen.
The Iranian diplomat went onto say that Saudi Arabia knows no limit in killing Yemeni children, women and the injured. “The terrorist-sponsoring and warmongering regime of Saud knows no boundaries and limits to killing children, women, the injured and civilians.”
The official made the remarks after a Saudi airstrike hit an MSF (Doctors Without Borders) hospital in Yemen’s Hajjah province and killed at least 25 people. This came after Saudi warplanes targeted a school and other locations in the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa'ada, killing several civilians, many of them children.
The Houthi Ansarullah movement, which rules the capital Sana’a also condemned the attacks,
State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau also denounced the attack on the MSF hospital. "Strikes on humanitarian facilities, including hospitals, are particularly concerning."
The United Nations has voiced it worries over a spike in child casualties over the last week in Yemen.
Back in June, the UN blacklisted Saudi Arabia after concluding in a report that Riyadh had been responsible for 60 percent of the 785 deaths of children in the Saudi war on Yemen last year. A few days later, however, the world body announced that Saudi Arabia would be taken off the list pending a joint review with Saudi Arabia.
Gholam-Ali Khoshroo, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN, has also recently told a meeting of Security Council that UN’S decision to temporarily reverse the blacklisting of Saudi Arabia for killing Yemeni children amounts to a betrayal of the defenseless minors.
Nearly 10,000 people have been killed since the Saudi launched its military campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. Yemenis say most of the victims in the Saudi aerial raids are civilians.
