The Head of Iran’s Expediency council says Imam Khomeini was a great supporter of public, and stood along the people form very beginning to the end.
Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said in a meeting held on Saturday that massive presence of people under the wise leadership of Imam forced people to flee the country. No option was left for the Pahlavi regime except to flee.
Recalling the days leading to victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Ayatollah Rafsanjani noted that Shah had once been amazed by seeing massive presence of people after having an air view and inspecting it through helicopters of protest rallies against his regime. Shah asked his subordinates to explain that why he was being misled over the number of people participating in the demonstrations.
Imam Khomeini once said that God, the Almighty had made our people acquainted with religious and social duties, so they joined rallies and remained on streets unless the mission was accomplished, the senior Iranian cleric added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Rafsanjani pointed out that the Shah regime from very beginning opposed the historic return of Imam to the country during the days which led to the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979.
The senior cleric concluded by saying that Imam had made historic return from Paris 37 years ago despite all dangers.
