The summit was attended by Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Ali Khomeini, the grandson of Imam Khomeini and several other senior lawmakers and scholars.
The academic figures and veteran politicians explored Imam Khomeini’s views about the contribution of the parliament in running the country’s affairs and its contribution to the development.
It is noteworthy that scholars’ discussions revolved around a famous saying by the founder of the Islamic Republic that “the parliament is placed on top of the all affairs”
They interpreted the various perspectives of Imam historic saying which demonstrate the significance and special status of a strong parliament in democracy.
It is noteworthy that The 1979 Islamic Revolution led to the overthrow of the Pahlavi dynasty, the second and last monarch of which was Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and put an end to 2,500 years of monarchic rule in Iran.
The Revolution, which was spearheaded by late Imam Khomeini, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.
Several elections have been held over more than past three decades since the downfall of the Shah regime.
The president is elected through a popular vote and presidential elections are each four years and the parliamentary voted is held for a term of five-year in Iran. The lawmakers elected from different regions of the country pass the bills, laws, legislation and monitor the government performance.
