The memorial service was held at Imam Khomeini Hosseinieh to pray for souls of the Hajj pilgrims who lost their lives in a recent deadly stampede in Saudi Arabia.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, President Hassan Rouhani, Hoajjat al-Islam Seyyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founder of Islamic Republic, and several other official attended the ceremony
A large number of people from various walks of life were also present at the memorial service.
In Tehran, earlier a large crowd of people attended the ceremony held outside the University of Tehran, IQNA reported.
At least 465 Iranians were among more than 4700 Hajj pilgrims who were killed in the tragedy on September 24.
The bodies of 104 Iranian victims of the tragic incident arrived in Tehran on Saturday.
The second plane transporting the bodies of 114 other Iranian pilgrims who lost their lives in the human crush of September 24 arrived in Iran’s capital Sunday.
The bodies of the remaining victims, some of whom have not been identified, are kept in a cold storage facility in Mecca. The bodies are set to be identified in Iran.
Addressing a ceremony on Saturday to pay tribute to the victims of the Mina disaster, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said, “If it is proven that a number of [Saudi] authorities are to blame for the incident, we will never forgive [those accountable for] the blood of our loved ones.”
