Muslim scholars put emphasis on countering terrorism, violence

The Muslim scholars attending the 6th General Assembly of World Assembly of Ahl-ul-Bayt have highlighted the need of countering terrorism and violence.

This comes as 6th General Assembly of World Assembly of Ahl-ul-Bayt concluded in a ceremony in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday night.

A number of ranking Iranian officials attended the closing ceremony, including Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Vice-president Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, IRNA news agency reported.

Nobakht in his speech said one of the challenges the Muslim world is facing today is the fake groups formed in the name of Islam to undermine the religion.

These groups make attempts to distort the true image of Islam and portray it as violent and merciless, he noted.

In line with confronting this phenomenon, the Iranian president made the World against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) proposal to the UN, Nobakht added.

On December 18, 2013, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted to approve the WAVE proposal, put forward by President Hassan Rouhani.

The initiative calls on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism. The Iranian president had made the proposal in his address to the UN Disarmament Conference in New York on September 25, 2013.

Hundreds of foreign guests from 130 world countries together with a number of Iranian political and cultural figures participated in the four-day assembly.

According to RASA news agency, participants in the Conference in a statement expressed their concern over the growing extremism and violence in the world, particularly in Iraq Syria and Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen. While condemning the atrocities and crimes committed by takfiris, they emphasized on maintaining moderation and rationality in the world and recommended use of all deterrent. We call on all governments to protect the rights and religious freedoms of Muslims and followers of Ahl al-Bayt.

While defending Islamic and heroic resistance of oppressed Palestinian, Syrian, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Bahraini nations, we declare our support for these defenders of human dignity, morality and freedom.

Unity of Islamic ummah, which is supported by Quran, Nabavi Sunna, and traditions of our Imams and the precious legacy of Imam of Ummah, and further emphasized by the Supreme Leader, should receive our attention as the most important Islamic principle.

Standing against global arrogance and seeking justice and fighting oppression, as the precious legacy of Islam and Ahl al-Bayt , should receive our attention.

We extend our hands of friendship to all Muslims and Islamic nations of the world, warn against all kinds of sectarian and secessionist movements and emphasize on the importance of territorial integrity of Islamic nations.

It is noteworthy that Imam Khomeini the founder of the Islamic Republic denounced all militant and terrorist groups who were damaging the Islamic societies and creating divisions and spreading sectarianism.

In his messages and speeches on several occasions, the great Imam opposed all forms of wahhabism, extremism and militancy. He also opposed the terrorist groups such as MKO which were supported and funded by the colonial powers to spread bloodshed among the Muslim societies.

Following the footsteps of the great Imam Khomeini, the Iranian government and people are against all militant groups who are playing into hands of the foes of Islam and staging bloodbath in Iraq and Syria.
