Brief biography

The late Hojat al-Islam Sayyid Ahmad Khomeini was born on March 14, 1946 in Qom. He accomplished his primary and secondary education there and then engaged in learning Islamic sciences.

Subsequent to Imam Khomeini’s exile, he secretly departed for Najaf in 1966 to join his father and there he was honored by Imam Khomeini to become a clergyman.

He returned home after a while and by making secure connections between revolutionaries and the leader of the revolution, endeavored to organize active religious forces. Besides these political activities, he diligently continued his religious studies. Having accomplished primary and secondary hawza courses, he benefited from the presence of great teachers inclusive of Ayatollah Soltani (his father-in-law), Ayatollah Haj Morteza Ansari and Ayatollah Shobeiri Zanjani to study high levels of hawza. In 1977, some of his comrades were apprehended by SAVAK and their connection with Sayyid Ahmad was exposed. So he decided to secretly leave Iran for Najaf. It was during the very same flight that he received the news of his honorable brother Ayatollah Sayyid Mostafa Khomeini’s martyrdom. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, as well, he played a very sensitive revolutionary and social role, as during the first decade of the post-Pahlavi era and in the midst of the Sacred Defense (Iran-Iraq war) he was still the most honest and trustworthy advisor of Imam Khomeini and the trustee of his residence and did his best to serve Iranian people and Imam Khomeini. After the demise of Imam Khomeini, conforming the line of velayat-e-faqih (absolute clerical supremacy), he focused all his efforts to preserve his father’s testament and will and always appeared at the frontline of movements to guard the Islamic Revolution and system. Finally, after some years of suffering from the grief of losing his father, as the most terrible injury on his body and soul, he passed away on  March 15, 1995, and his spirit went to meet his creator.
